Our position of "YES ON MEASURE V" is made up of six critical points which we believe the Ridgecrest voter needs to know.
- MEASURE “V” PREVENTS LOCAL TAXES BEING SEIZED BY KERN COUNTY
- MEASURE “V” SECURES OUR PUBLIC SAFETY AND POLICE FUNDING
- MEASURE “V” MAINTAINS OUR ROADS AND INFRASTRUCTURE
- MEASURE “V” SUPPORTS ECONOMIC GROWTH AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
- MEASURE “V” PRESERVES PROPERTY VALUES AND QUALITY OF LIFE
- MEASURE “V” ENSURES LOCAL CONTROL AND ACCOUNTABILITY
All of this can be accomplished through the continuation of a 1% sales tax, with 100% of the benefit going to the citizens of the City of Ridgecrest. Notably, 47% of the revenue generated by this measure will come from non-resident taxable purchases, ensuring that visitors to our community contribute significantly to maintaining and improving our city.
MEASURE “V” PREVENTS LOCAL TAXES BEING SEIZED BY KERN COUNTY
State law allows for a 2% cap on the sales tax rate for local cities and counties. If Measure V passes, we will have the FULL 2% cap dedicated to local funding and local resources. This means that ANY sales tax increase passed by Kern County in the future would not be eligible to be charged in Ridgecrest due to the 2% cap being fully secured to local needs. Read More
MEASURE “V” PROTECTS OUR CITIZENS AND POLICE

As a continuation of the existing 1% sales tax, Measure V directly contributes to public safety by funding 43% of the Ridgecrest Police Department's budget. This allows our officers to respond swiftly to emergencies, conduct thorough investigations, and maintain a visible presence in our community. Read More
MEASURE “V” MAINTAINS OUR ROADS
Ridgecrest's road infrastructure is vital to the safety, economy, and quality of life for our residents. Without proper maintenance, our roads deteriorate rapidly, leading to increased vehicle damage, accidents, and long-term repair costs that far exceed the expenses of regular upkeep. Measure V, which is not a new tax but a continuation of the existing 1% sales tax, plays a crucial role in funding the maintenance and rehabilitation of our city’s roads. Without Measure V, the progress we’ve made in repairing and maintaining our roads would come to a halt, putting our community’s infrastructure and safety at risk. Read More
